Sir Edward Youde Scholars Association
Chairman's Word
It gives me great pleasure, as the Chairman of the Sir Edward Youde Scholars Association, to deliver this message to you.
The success of Hong Kong very much depends on the long term investment in human capital. In my mind, the goal of tertiary institute is to provide an all-rounded development to students. To continue to stay ahead of the challenges and maintain our edge in the 21st century, nurturing more talented young people with this goal are necessary.
The Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fund (SEYMF) is one of the remarkable scholarships in Hong Kong. In memory of the late Governor, Sir Edward Youde, for his distinguished contribution to Hong Kong, SEYMF was established in 1st April 1987. Over the years, numerous brilliant local and oversea scholars have been nurtured to undertake further studies and research under SEYMF.
With the guidance and support of Lady Youde and the encouragement of the late Honorable Stephen Cheong, our association was officially formed and later renamed Sir Edward Youde Scholars Association (SEYSA) in March 1992.
Scholarship, Social Awareness and Solidarity are the objectives of the association. The 3-S mission embodied our association’s committment to promote learning and education such as holding seminars in different aspects, to foster the spirit of service to Hong Kong like taking part in Cyber Run 2009 and to maintain the friendship among Youders for instance the hosting of Award Gala Dinner.
In seventeen years’ development, Youders has contributed themselves to the development of Hong Kong. Currently, Hong Kong is facing a global economic crisis, despite all the challenges there are also abundant opportunities. As Youder, we should hold tight our belief that we can make a difference to Hong Kong during this critical period, now more than ever before.
