Prof. Christopher Chao
Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fellowships for Overseas Studies 1990/91
Prof. Christopher Chao is the Dean of Faculty of Engineering and Chair Professor of Mechanical Engineering, The University of Hong Kong. He received his Bachelor of Science in Engineering Degree (First Class) in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Hong Kong in 1988, and his Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Mechanical Engineering from The University of California at Berkeley, in 1992 and 1994, respectively.
His research interests include indoor contaminant transport, energy efficient building technology, energy engineering, low-energy air distribution systems, VOC oxidation and ultrafine particles.
Professor Chao is an active scholar in the engineering field internationally. He is a Fellow of The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (FASME), USA, The Institution of Mechanical Engineers (FIMechE), UK, The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (FCIBSE), UK, The Hong Kong Academy of Engineering Sciences (FHKEng), The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (FHKIE), and a member of The International Society of Indoor Air Quality and Climate (ISIAQ) Academy of Fellows. He is also an editor and associate editor of several international journals.
Professor Chao also takes up advisory role in various units and organizations such as Research Grants Council, Environment Bureau, Housing Authority, Cyberport and HKU SPACE, etc.”
