13th April 2020
Dear Youders and friends,
On behalf of the 17th Executive Committee of Sir Edward Youde Scholars Association (SEYSA), I would like to express my greatest pleasure of having the opportunity to serve the association this year.
SEYSA was founded in 1992. Having benefited from the scholarship, our founding executive board members and awardees felt obliged to devote themselves to the public in the name of Sir Edward Youde. It has developed from a small group of award recipients, scholars to a renowned scholar’s community with over 25,000 awardees who have a connection with us. We call ourselves the Youders, individuals who obtain scholarships from Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fund. To maintain the integrity of the Youder family, SEYSA strives to continue the legacy, based on the three founding principles of the Association – Solidarity, Scholarship, and Social awareness, also known as the “3S”.
This year, the theme of the association is “Connect and Contribute” – connect our Youders and contribute to the society.
Internally, we will continue to offer young awardees opportunities to explore different possibilities by a various of programmes, like the Chapter Ten Mentorship Programme. The Association has built up a network of a myriad of talents, with Youders participating in top positions in different fields and professions. Our experienced Youders are more than willing to provide a helping hand. A highlight of my term is to reinitiate the Youth Programme, a three-day camp for new members to build lifelong friendships and adapt better when they enter a new stage of their lives. Of course, we will continue to hold events to bring all our members, senior and young, together. Socialising events aside, we will initiate the “Youder Stories”, a page sharing stories and ideas of our Youders from different generations and backgrounds. It aims to engage more members and allows members to know more about the membership base of our association. Our solidarity can certainly foster exchange of ideas among various disciplines and industries, and our collective efforts will bring about betterment of the society.
Externally, we would like to focus more on social services. SEYSA is keenly aware of the responsibilities we bear to the society. This year, we will be collaborating with several charities and NGOs and organize volunteering services targeting the disadvantaged more frequently. We will continue to look for ways to engage more members to interact with and serve the wider community.
Last but not least, we would like to wish you a healthy and blossoming year ahead!
Sincerely yours,
Mr. Jason Lam
President of the Executive Committee 2020-2022
